Hey NYC guys,
If you're in town on Sat., May 20, go see Opus 21 at Thalia Theater at Symphony Space at 8pm. Opus 21 is a new music group started a couple years ago by one of my composition profs from undergrad at Western Mich. Univ. The ensemble involves WMU faculty members, including the WMU Jazz Quartet. They recently won the ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming.
I saw their preview performance in Ann Arbor last night. Wow! I was thoroughly entertained! The program of eight pieces included six (yes, six!) premieres, one of which is a new piece by Paquito D'Rivera.
